House Cleaning Cost: Why Your Quote Starts With a Walk-Through

House cleaning costs come down to four things: your home's condition, its size, how often you want service, and which tasks are on the list. Of those, condition usually matters most. Two homes with the same square footage can take very different amounts of time, which is why we don't quote a firm price over the phone. At Mops & Muscles, we walk through your home first, then build a customized game plan and a quote that fits it. Our professional cleaning services cover recurring, deep, and move-in/move-out cleaning.

Condition, Size and Frequency: What Drives House Cleaning Cost

Condition is often the biggest factor in your quote because it sets how long each room takes. A home with lots of decor, collectibles, and open shelving takes longer to dust than one with clear surfaces, even at the same size. Flooring plays a part too. Carpet gets vacuumed, while hard floors get swept and mopped, and most homes have a mix.

Size still counts. More bedrooms, bathrooms, and floor space mean more to clean, and bathrooms and kitchens usually take the most time.

Frequency is where a routine helps. Homes cleaned weekly, every other week, or with monthly house cleaning stay ahead of buildup, so each visit is upkeep instead of catch-up. The American Cleaning Institute's cleaning tips offer guidance on building a regular routine, from weekly upkeep to seasonal projects.

One more thing: everyone's idea of clean is a little different, because the way we each live feels normal to us. A walk-through lets us see your home and hear what clean means to you.

Standard Cleaning Versus Deeper Tasks

A standard clean keeps a home in good shape, while a deep clean goes after the areas routine visits don't reach every time. That difference shows up in the cost of home cleaning, since detail work takes longer. Here's how the two typically compare:

Area

Standard clean

Deep clean adds

Kitchen

Counters, sink, appliance exteriors, cabinet fronts, floors

Buildup around fixtures, sides of appliances, inside appliances

Bathrooms

Toilets, tubs, showers, sinks, mirrors, cabinet fronts, vents, floors

Detailed work on fixtures and soap residue removal

Bedrooms and living areas

Dusting (decor, baseboards, doors, window and door trim, ceiling fans), vacuuming, mopping, bed making and linen changes

Wet wiping baseboards, doors, window and door trim, ceiling fans (within reach), and light fixtures

Often-missed spots

Blinds dusted; other spots as needed

Blinds wet wiped, under accessible furniture, carpet edges

Many homeowners start with one deep clean and then move to recurring standard visits. The first visit resets the home, and the visits after it keep it that way.

Extras and What a Quote Should Include

Extras are tasks outside your regular list, and each one adds time. Before you compare quotes, ask exactly what's included, because two companies can use the same service name for very different work.

Items worth asking about:

  • Decluttering and organizing

  • Inside the oven or refrigerator on a standard visit (both are part of a deep clean)

  • Inside cabinets or closets

Tell us about surfaces that need special care, like natural stone or hardwood, so we can follow the manufacturer's guidance. If you prefer certain products, or want options carrying the EPA's Safer Choice label, mention it up front. Access details matter too: pets, parking, entry instructions, and any rooms that are off limits.

Moving soon? Our move-in and move-out cleaning is scoped separately because empty homes need a different checklist.

Request a Home-Specific Estimate

Would you trust a company that gives you a firm price without seeing your home? A number given blind is a guess. It either has to be padded to cover what the company can't see, or it leaves out work your home actually needs. If you call, we're happy to talk through a general range, but it will be broad. Accurate house cleaning prices come from an on-site walk-through.

To set up your walk-through, have this ready:

  1. Number of bedrooms and bathrooms, plus approximate square footage

  2. When the home was last professionally cleaned

  3. How often you'd like service

  4. Rooms or tasks that matter most to you

  5. Pets, access details, and surfaces that need special care

  6. Your address, so we can confirm it's in our service area

We're based in Trenton and serve homes across Downriver and Detroit.

House Cleaning Cost FAQs

Why don't you give prices over the phone?

Every home is different. Condition, size, frequency, and extras all change how long a visit takes. We can share a general range by phone, but a walk-through gives you a quote based on your actual home.

Is the first clean priced differently from recurring visits?

It can be. If your home needs extra time on buildup the first time, your quote will reflect that, and we'll explain the difference before we start.
