A Fresh, Clean Kitchen: How to Master a Kitchen Deep Clean with Mops and Muscles

Your kitchen works hard—it’s where meals are made, coffee is brewed, and snacks are sneaked. But over time, even the cleanest kitchens can start to feel a little... grimy. If your counters are cluttered or your oven is giving off mystery smells, it might be time for a kitchen deep clean.
At Mops and Muscles, we believe cleaning shouldn’t feel like a punishment. With the right steps (and maybe a little music), your kitchen will be sparkling in no time—and we’re here to guide you every wipe of the way.
Step 1: Clear the Decks
Before you clean, clear. Take everything off your countertops, empty the sink, and move small appliances to the side. This gives you room to work and helps you spot buildup you might’ve missed—like crumbs behind the toaster or splashes on the backsplash.
Step 2: Start with the Fridge
We like to begin every kitchen deep clean with the fridge. Why? Because it's the one spot we all tend to forget until something smells... off.
Toss anything expired or questionable.
Remove shelves and bins and wash them with warm, soapy water.
Wipe down all interior surfaces, including seals and corners.
Bonus tip: Place an open box of baking soda inside when you're done to absorb future odors.
Step 3: Tackle the Oven & Stove
This area does the heavy lifting in your kitchen—so show it some love! Use a degreaser or a homemade paste of baking soda and water for the inside of your oven. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes before scrubbing.
Wipe down the stovetop, knobs, and the hood above it. Grease loves to hide here, and a little effort goes a long way.
Don’t forget: pull the stove out (if possible) to vacuum or sweep behind it. That’s a sneaky spot where crumbs love to hide.
Step 4: Cabinets, Counters & Sink
Spray and wipe down your cabinet doors, especially around the handles. Use a gentle cleaner that cuts through grease but won’t damage finishes. Then scrub the countertops with something food-safe and wipe down any backsplash tiles.
For the sink, sprinkle in baking soda and scrub with a sponge, then rinse with hot water. Finish by shining up the faucet—you’ll be amazed how much brighter your whole kitchen feels.
Step 5: Small Appliances Matter
Now it’s time for the often-forgotten crew: your microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and blender. Wipe down their surfaces and give the inside of the microwave a steam treatment (a bowl of water with lemon slices works wonders—just microwave it for five minutes).
If your coffee maker has a water reservoir, run a cleaning cycle with vinegar and then fresh water. Clean machines = better-tasting brews.
Step 6: Floors Are the Grand Finale
Save the floor for last so you don’t undo your hard work. Sweep thoroughly, then mop with a solution that’s safe for your flooring type. If you have grout, give it a quick scrub or steam to lift out dirt.
When you're done? Step back and take a deep breath—ahhh, that’s what a clean kitchen should feel like.
