Let’s be honest—bathrooms can go from sparkling to scary pretty fast. Between soap scum, toothpaste splatters, and those mysterious corners we try not to think about, it’s easy to let things slide. But fear not! A proper bathroom deep clean doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

At Mops and Muscles, we know a fresh bathroom can make your whole home feel more put together. So whether you're cleaning for guests, doing a spring refresh, or just catching up on what’s been put off too long—we’re here to help you scrub smarter, not harder.

Step One: Start with a Clear Space

Before you dive into your bathroom deep clean, remove everything from the counters, tub, and floor. That includes toothbrush holders, shampoo bottles, and yes—even the pile of hair ties that’s multiplied behind the sink.

This step gives you a clean slate to work with and helps you spot those sneaky messes hiding in plain sight.

Step Two: Dust and Sweep First

It might sound backwards, but always start with dry cleaning before you bring out the sprays and scrubs. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe down baseboards, vents, and the top of your mirror. Then sweep the floors to pick up hair and dust.

Pro tip: Don't forget to check the fan. A dusty exhaust fan can affect airflow—and nobody wants a foggy bathroom that stays damp for hours.

Step Three: Tackle the Tough Stuff

Now we’re getting into the heart of the bathroom deep clean. Grab your favorite cleaner (we love vinegar and baking soda for natural power) and focus on the big zones:

  • Toilet: Scrub the bowl, wipe the tank and base, and clean behind it (yes, behind it).

  • Shower & Tub: Spray everything with a cleaner and let it sit for 10–15 minutes before scrubbing. A brush works better than a sponge here.

  • Sink & Faucet: Use a toothbrush to get around the edges and in small crevices.

  • Grout: A paste of baking soda and water, scrubbed with a brush, can brighten it up fast.

This part takes the most elbow grease, but it’s where the sparkle really starts to shine through.

Step Four: Shine and Disinfect

Once the big cleaning jobs are done, go back and wipe down all surfaces with a disinfectant. Pay close attention to doorknobs, faucet handles, and light switches.

Use glass cleaner on mirrors and chrome fixtures to make them sparkle—and admire your reflection while you're at it!

Step Five: Floors Last

Save the floor for last so you don’t end up stepping on your hard work. Mop from the farthest corner toward the door, and make sure you rinse the mop frequently to avoid just spreading dirt around.

If you’ve got tile, this is a great time to scrub the grout lines or use a steam mop for a truly deep clean.

Bonus Touches for Your Bathroom Deep Clean

Want to take your bathroom deep clean to the next level? Try these extras:

  • Add a few drops of essential oil to the inside of the toilet paper roll for a gentle scent.

  • Restock guest towels and toiletries if you’re expecting company.

  • Pop a small plant on the counter to bring in some freshness.

Little details make a big difference—and they turn a clean bathroom into a peaceful retreat.
